SCA spells
“ENDURANCE”! |
As
of February 28, 2018 |
35
Sturgeon Creek Arabian-bred horses have: |
29,010 AERC and EC miles* |
711 total rides |
86% completion record |
33 Best Conditioned
awards |
246
Top Tens |
61 First Places |
41 Second Places |
* Note: Before 2015, all miles reported above were for AERC-sanctioned
rides. Effective in 2015, Equestrian Canada (EC) is
sanctioning some Canadian rides exclusively; these ride
results also are included.
We at Sturgeon Creek Arabians are particularly proud of
the quality of horses our breeding program has produced.
Several have excelled in endurance racing.
In 2002, SCA Dartagnan was chosen to represent Canada at
the World Endurance Championship in the United Arab
Emirates. In 2008, Reason To Believe was the second SCA-bred
horse to be selected to compete at the World Endurance
Championship, held in Malaysia. We think it is quite a
feat for a small breeding program such as ours to have
produced two world-class athletes.
We have posted several articles about our endurance
activities on our
Articles page.
These include a PowerPoint created in February 2014
about our breeding program and our top 11 endurance
horses (click
here); an article
published in February 2014, “Sturgeon Creek Arabians”,
edited by Daphne Richard, Past Chair, Endurance Canada (click
here); Carl Fudge’s pedigree analysis of Nobby,
winner of the
2010 World Endurance Championship held in Kentucky (click

and Carl Fudge’s presentation on September 3rd, 2011,
"What Should I Look For In A Prospect For Endurance
Competition?" (click

Comments received
from the Owner of Spirited Music, December 20, 2010:
Spirit completed Tevis with ease - really. She loved the ride. I
did not go up cougar rock. I was riding with the grande dame of
Tevis at the time (Barbara White) and she opted to go around,
and so did I. I'm thinking about doing it again in 2011…! Spirit
is an amazing horse. With a rider like Cheryl Dell she could
have achieved as much as Reason (To Believe) has. She is a dream
horse.
Comment about the AERC 10-mile Equine
Longevity Award, March 2017: Spirit
is still going strong and doing 50's.

She is an incredible horse. Aside from being an
almost perfect athlete, she has the personality of a golden
lab. She is level headed, and smart. She takes complete
care of herself during any endurance ride. She has a
willing heart, but knows when she is tired. She makes an
outstanding "pet," trail horse, and arena horse in addition
to doing endurance. -Marie Feuer (Professor of Psychology,

Bud is such a wonderful, versatile horse. We love to show him to
friends who think Arabians are too hot and skittish. They leave
thinking the Arabian horse is a wonderful breed. He is a lovely,
sweet horse and a treasured member of our family.
With Mike’s surgeries and my pregnancy, months have gone
by with no work other than turnout or leading. And yet, Mike can
just hop on Bud’s back and expect a calm ride as if he had been
out yesterday. – Karen Stueve,

want to say how much I love Piper. He came to me three years
ago from friends who could no longer ride due to health
issues. He has a wonderful disposition and takes good care of
himself on the trail and in the pasture. This year he completed
8 of his 9 endurance efforts. You produced a really good
horse!
In February 2011:
Piper is still with me. His disposition is wonderful and he
is a steady guy. Anna (Allen) and Victoria (Henley) were teens
when they rode Piper. They learned a lot from him. When he
isn't being ridden on the trail, Piper gets in a few dressage
lessons with my trainer, Kelly Casey. – Karen Bottiani, Moraga,
